Library membership Services

It is easy to become a member of the Swift Current Library and it's FREE! All you need to become a member is two pieces of identifications showing your current name and address!

Children up to 14 years of age require the signature of a parent/legal guardian to get a library card. Teenagers (14 - 18 years of age) with no identification can get a library card. A parent/legal guardian can accompany the teen and the library will issue a library card based on the parent's/legal guardian's identification.

Your Swift Current Branch Library Card can be used at any public library in Saskatchewan!

Important! If your address, telephone number, or name changes, please let us know so that we can update our records! Also, Report a lost or stolen card immediately. You are responsible for anything borrowed on the card until it is reported lost. The cost of replacing a card is $3.00.

** If you have charges of $10.00 or over, you will be unable to borrow any materials.

Replacement charges

A replacement charge is added automatically to your account for items that are overdue for 30 days. The replacement charge represents the average cost for the library to replace that sort of item plus a $5.00 processing fee. Replacement charges are applicable to lost and damaged items.

Renewals

To avoid overdues, you can renew most items twice as long as no one else has asked to borrow it. You can renew overdue items in person, online or by phoning your branch.

Online Catalogue - ENCORE

Encore is the library’s online catalogue system that allows you to search, place a hold and to manage your account.

Search

· Go to www.chinooklibrary.ca or www.swiftcurrent.ca/library

· Click on Search Encore to access the catalogue

· Enter a search term (title, author, subject or interests) in the box

· Hit Enter or click on the button

· Search results can be narrowed down using the selections on the left

Place a hold

· From your search results, select the item that you would like.

· Click on Request It

· Enter your library card number and pin number (your pin is the last 4 digits of your phone number, if not changed)

· Select a pick-up location

· Click on Submit button

Manage your account

· In Encore, click on Login on top right corner

· Enter your library card number and pin number

(your pin is the last 4 digits of your phone number, if not changed)

· When you are logged in, there will be a greeting message on the top identifying your name.

· Click on My Account on top right corner.

· You can change your pin number, renew books, manage your holds and view your reading history from here.

Interlibrary Loans

You may borrow books that are not in the Swift Current Branch Library through interlibrary loans. This means that Swift Current Branch will bring in requested materials from other regional, provincial, national or international libraries.

Interlibrary loans may be requested through the Swift Current Branch, by phoning the 24 Hour Chinook Regional Library Request Line (1-800-CRL-8844 or 773-5564 in Swift Current), or by email to Chinook Regional Library headquarters.
